Shutter Cut Lighting Design is looking for attentive, energetic, and motivated individuals to join the Robin Gray Design Internship for Summer 2025 at the Hollywood Bowl. This paid, hands-on lighting design internship offers a unique opportunity to observe the fast-paced world of live production at one of the busiest venues in the country. If you’re eager to learn, ready to work hard, and excited to gain insight into what it takes to produce the lighting for large-scale entertainment, we want to hear from you.
What You’ll Do
-
Learn the production process—almost every day is a different show with different challenges.
-
Work alongside the design team and local union crew to understand how the lighting design and department is organized, executed, and adapted for both live audiences and the camera.
-
Support and observe the design process, including programming, cueing, and real-time adjustments for various productions.
-
Develop an understanding of show management—balancing creative intent with technical and logistical execution.
-
Gain experience in programming practices and the logistics of running an extensive moving light system.
-
Learn how lighting designers collaborate with other departments, from video and set design to touring designers and visiting creatives.
-
Engage with top industry professionals and get a behind-the-scenes look at the fast-moving world of live entertainment at the Hollywood Bowl.

Generally, a student of lighting or early career, though there is no specific requirement for age or education.
-
Attentive & energetic – You stay engaged, pick up on details, and take initiative.
